Apple Tart

As I’ve mentioned, I love for my house to smell entirely of cinnamon when fall rolls around, and our next recipe is perfect for achieving just that! I found this recipe on delish.com, which is always full of goodies. I’ve made my fair share of pies but I’d never made a real tart before. Or I really just wanted an excuse to buy a tart pan, who’s to say?

For our next recipe, we’re making a lovely, decorative apple tart.

If you’re nervous to make your own pie or pie crust, this is perfect for you! It still has a crust, but nowhere as tricky as flaky pie crust can be. The filling is also very similar to the filling of an apple pie, so you know it’s going to be good. This was super easy to make and would be easy enough to put your own spin on it in the design. I’ve personally always wanted to make an apple rose tart which makes the apples look like rose petals, but decided to go with the design from delish this time around. Even if you’re not super confident in your design or aesthetic skills, this one is pretty simple to replicate.

The apple tart is a perfect addition to any fall festivity, and would make a delicious dessert at your Thanksgiving table this year. Slice up those apples from your favorite orchard and enjoy!

Ingredients:

For the filling:

  • 4-5 apples, peeled, cored and sliced

  • 1/3 cup brown sugar

  • Juice of 1/2 lemon

  • 1 tsp cinnamon

  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

For the crust:

  • 1 1/3 cup all-purpose flour

  • 1/4 cup brown sugar

  • 1/2 tsp salt

  • 1/4 tsp cinnamon

  • 10 tbs unsalted butter, melted

Finishing:

  • 2 tbs unsalted butter, cut into small cubes

  • Melted apricot preserves

Method:

  • Preheat oven to 350 °. In a large bowl, toss apples, brown sugar, lemon juice, cinnamon, vanilla and salt together until the apples are evenly coated.

  • In another large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, salt, and cinnamon. Add the melted butter and stun until a dough forms. Press mixture into a 10” or 11” tart pan with a removable bottom, pressing the dough until smooth.

  • Arrange the apples over the crust; for this design in particular, stack a dozen or so slices of apple together and place them over the crust, cut-side down. Continue this at slightly different angles and directions to create a variation in the look of it.

  • Dot the top with the small cubes of butter and bake until crust is golden and apples are tender, about 1 hour.

  • Remove from the oven and brush with melted apricot preserves and let cool slightly before serving.
